"Who You Be?"

Introducing a concept today that has the potential to change your life. Bold statement? Well duh, have you met us?

Okay friends, we seriously encourage you to listen to this week's episode because it's JAM packed with tons of goodness. Honestly, we encourage you to listen to this week's episode more than once! It took Francesca a few tries to totally sit and marinate with this concept until it became truth. And boyyyy did it become TRUTH.

Here's a quick outline of what we chatted about in this week's episode along with tons of resources to reinforce this idea!

The Concept

Be. Do. Have.

Think of something you want to HAVE in terms of your professional life, family life, relationship, etc.

  • Most people live their lives with the mentality of Have, Do, Be. If I just have (x), then I can do, then I will be. Crazy example - if I just have a boat, then I will be able to go out on the water every weekend & then I will feel/be more free. Less crazy - if I have more money, I will be able to go on more vacations, then I will be more happy

Our typical mindset goes a little something like this, "If I work harder, then I’ll be successful and then I’ll be happy." NOPE

Fam… It’s actually the other way around.

  • It’s BE, then DO, then HAVE. We promise

  • First of all, things don’t tend to manifest long lasting feelings. Science backs this up.

  • Additionally, focusing on Who You Be (yes, that’s weird phrasing), but focusing on who you be will inform the things you DO aka your actions. And your actions can end up manifesting what you have.

  • Have you ever heard phrases like, work from a place of joy, come at life from an abundance mentality… these are all common vernacular because there is truth to them.

Break this down

Start with who you want to be.

  • When Audra was in college, she and her friend sat and wrote down a list of adjectives they wanted associated with their names. GENIUS! Am I right? When someone was talking about _____ (fill in your name) here’s what I hope they’d say

“When you know who you are, you’ll know what to do” - Leadership Expert, Craig Groeschel
  • We’re going to suggest you eat the elephant one bite at a time here. Pick 1-3 goals or areas of your life you’re looking to make impact on. Of course we all want to improve all facets of our lives all the time, but that doesn’t work well in practice.

OK you’ve decided the WHO statements of who you wanna be. Now guess what...

  • Choosing to operate from who you be, will inform the actions you take. AKA what you DO…

  • If you’ve chosen that who you BE is a patient mom, then next time your toddler is melting down & you feel yourself starting to boil over… our guess is that a little signal will go off in your brain that "HEYYYY You are a patient mom." Even worse case scenario, you’ll pause & ask yourself “What would a patient mom do in this situation?” Be, then DO.

The last step, the HAVE

Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny. Ghandi
  • Audra shares an awesome story on our podcast this week about how there are seasons in her business where she was working from a place of lack. Be sure to tune in here, we can ALL relate to this, right?

  • Examples of this manifesting for her look like: Frustration by the number of clients, new business, etc. In those seasons, the DAY that I woke up & chose to operate from who I knew I wanted to be (usually thanks to a kick butt training, convo with a mentor, or amazing ted talk) – And by the way, who I want to BE is joyful, grateful, adding value to others, inspiring my customer to feel beautiful – The DAY I made that mental shift, I literally made different behavior choices (most of them subconsciously) and you guys… the clients that came my way in the next couple of days & weeks are to this day, some of my sweetest, most supportive, closest client relationships to date.

WAYS TO IMPLEMENT BE, DO, HAVE

  • SELF-AWARENESS:

The first step to changing any habit in your life is being self-aware; it’s catching yourself in the act that you don’t want to encourage. Do you want to save $5,000? Every time you go to buy a latte that you can make at home or buy another pair of shorts when you have 10 in your closet, think about it. Take the extra moment to stop and think about how this action is going to affect your goal. Keep actions to encourage your end goal.

  • PAUSE.

Ask: What would the person I want to be, do in this situation?

  • WHO ARE YOU SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH?

Jim Rohn reminds us that we are the average of the 5 people we hang out with the most. Who are we hanging out with? Are they working towards their goals from a place of joy and abundance? Or are they always saying how they wish they had more (x).

  • WRITE IT DOWN. READ IT OVER. A LOT.

Write down you who be. Do you want to be a millionaire? Write down, “I generate 1 million dollars by servicing (x).” write it down every dang day. You will be filling your mind with the faith and belief that YOU DO HAVE 1 million dollars. Kicker here - write down HOW you will make it. Be specific.

One way we love to do this is by using Rachel Hollis’ start today journal! It’s so helpful and gives us a platform to write these dreams down every day as we work closer to them.

  • LET IT MARINATE.

When I first learned this topic, it really didn’t sink in right away. You might be like me & this will slowly get under your skin. You’ll start to catch yourself thinking if I “have,” in a lot of little ways. You’ll start to identify places to reframe your thinking. This might be a slow build, a slow burn kinda lesson.

FINAL THOUGHT

"Be the kind of the woman that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, the devil says, 'Oh shit she’s awake.'”

We are excited to hear who you BE, who you are choosing to be!
